Heather and Travis

11/02/18

With her mind on saving for travelling the world, Novelle Bride Heather didn't expect to find the man of her dreams at a friend's birthday celebration. Fast forward to five and a half years later, Travis got down on one knee and Heather could barely contain her excitement to SAY YES! This summer Heather and Travis had their perfect mountain wedding, so we asked Heather to share her story.

"Travis and I met through a co-worker of mine. I just got back from travelling Australia and had the itch to travel the rest of the world. I started a job at an oilfield company in the hopes to make some good money fast to continue my journey travelling the rest of the world. My co-worker introduced me to Travis and we all went out to celebrate a friend's birthday. Travis took me on a few dates after that but I wasn't ready to settle down and I stuck to my plan to continue working to save some money. Travis and I talked quite frequent and met up even more. I then realized that guys like him are one in a million, so I decided to make it exclusive and start dating him (with travel still in the back of my mind). Travis and I had been together for 5 and a half years when he proposed to me. We were back east in New Brunswick visiting my Dad and family when Travis asked my father for my hand in marriage. The ideal plan was to propose to me back home but the ring came in the day after we flew out. When we arrived home nothing was out of the ordinary. We went to work the following Monday and Travis came home with a bouquet of flowers. Travis is charmer and always has been so this again was nothing out of the ordinary. I cooked supper and we hung out on the couch. Travis came around the corner and told me that those flowers are actually for a special occasion and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was in complete shock! I couldn't believe it! The guy I was hesitant on dating because all I wanted to do was travel is now on one knee asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. I couldn't be more excited to say YES!

After that, the fun began. My sister, mother and soon to be mother in law made a trip up to Edmonton to go shopping for a wedding dress. I was pretty set on what I wanted and had done a  ton of research on bridal stores that I needed to stop at. The morning began as we ventured through the city to try on bridal dresses. What was supposed to be an amazing and exciting day turned pretty overwhelming fast. A lot of the dresses I tried on were too small, or too big, or just didn't flatter me. At one shop I even felt like I was an inconvenience to the consultant. I was emotional, devastated, tired.....just a whirlwind of emotions, until I walked into Novelle. Novelle was my last stop of the day. We were greeted immediately with a warm welcome and a smile. We looked around the store as we waited for the consultant. We were then guided into our private room while my consultant asked me some questions to have a better understanding of what I was looking for. I was looking for a boho, flowy dress that flattered me and my body. I explained my experiences at other bridal stores earlier that day and how mentally draining it was for me. She lead me around the store as I picked out a few dresses that i was interested in. My consultant picked a few dresses for me as well. I fell in love with two. Being exhausted I wasn't ready to say yes to the dress at that point. A few months later I made another appointment to go back to Novelle with just my mother. Again, I was greeted with a smile and a warm welcome as we entered the bridal store. We were then guided to a private room again where I tried the two favourite dresses on. I was leaning towards one more than other other and my sales consultant dressed me up in a veil, jewelry and a flower bouquet, and it was at that moment that the happy tears came and I felt confident in saying yes to the dress! I felt like a princess! I never wanted to take my dress off.

Then came the wedding day, July 21, 2018. We had our dream mountain wedding in Canmore, Alberta. Travis and I decided to do a first look before the ceremony so I could have that moment alone with him before walking down the aisle. It was a nice way to calm our emotions. It was magical. I cried, he teared up,and it was at that moment that everything felt real! The guy I was hesitant on dating is going to become my HUSBAND in just a few short hours!! Our wedding was perfect. The weather was overcast (thankfully as it was 30 degrees the previous day) and everything went as scheduled. Except when we were stuck on the mountain in construction during our photos and were 45 minutes late to our receptions...whoops! We had all of our closest friends and family celebrating with us. We aimed to have a woodland theme to honor the true beauty of the mountains as much as we could. Everything was just perfect. I wish I could relive our wedding day over and over again and all the special moments that lead up to it. I'm now married to the man of my dreams and I couldn't be more ecstatic to be sharing this life with Travis! "
