After discovering at a party that they had many mutual friends and many missed opportunities to meet each other, Jill and Jarrett finally had time on their side. After a surprise and beautiful engagement, our bride Jill started the hunt for her perfect wedding dress, coming all the way from Saskatoon. We asked her to share her experience with you all!
"Jarrett and I officially met almost four years ago at a birthday party. With the nudge of a good friend, we were introduced and spent the rest of the night chatting. It was not too long after that evening that we had our "first official date". We quickly realized that we shared many common friends and had literally missed crossing paths on several occasions. Timing was finally on our side.
While hiking up a back country snowboarding run in Panorama February 2017, I noticed that Jarrett was trailing behind me. He had been extremely quiet riding up the chair lift and insisted that we wait to call my family (it was my birthday) until after lunch. This was unusual, but I did not think much of it. With the beautiful mountains all around us and no other skiers or snowboarders around, Jarrett got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
When it came time to start planning my wedding, I had ideas of where I wanted it to be and the time of year but I had not really though much about the DRESS! I knew I needed to keep an open mind, so I asked my mom and sister (who would not be afraid to speak their mind) to join me while I searched for the perfect gown. Coming from Saskatoon, I had booked six appointments in Edmonton over three days. Many of my friends had been married in the last couple of years and had many a suggestion for bridal stores but a common "must" was Novelle.
Arriving on Friday we had our first appointment. It was not hard to find a dress that I liked but finding a dress that I loved would be the hard part. Leaving our first appointment I thought I had found "the dress" but I wanted to keep my options open. We arrived Saturday morning at Novelle. There was something special about the atmosphere when we first arrived, I remember thinking "I am going to find the dress".
We were immediately greeted by our stylist Joanna. She brought us back to our room and we discussed price range, things I was looking for in a dress and things I did not want. We then made the walk around the store to chose gowns. Originally, I thought I wanted a dress with a deep V in the front and lace embellishment. Finding those that made the cut, Joanna presents a dress to me. It is the complete opposite of what I thought I wanted but she insisted that we try it on.
Making our way back to the changing room, I tried on a dew dresses with various styles of the V neck and lace; we had about ten dresses pulled. Finally, I decided to try on the Devon dress that Joanna had suggested. I am sure we have all watched 'Say Yes to the Dress' or a version of it, and you can tell when the bride has found their dress. As I stood in front of the mirror, in my head I was saying "Oh my this is the one!". I felt amazing in the dress! We pulled the curtain to show my Mom, sister and good friend Danny and they were speechless! I did not need to try on one more dress, I knew this was the one.
On August 11, 2018, I married my best friend and partner in the most amazing dress. We had a blast and enjoyed every minute of the day. We were surrounded by so much love, I could not have asked for anything more. We decided to have a first look with personal vows before the wedding and I was so excited to finally reveal my dress to Jarrett. As he opened his eyes to see me for the first time, all he could say was "you are so beautiful!. I felt so beautiful but also myself in the Devon. "
