Liz & Thomas

08/18/21 EVENTS NEWS

"Thomas and I met online when we were both studying at the University of Alberta. I was hesitant about meeting someone from the internet, so I scheduled our first date inbetween my classes at a coffee shop. After meeting him in person I quickly found out what a kind and humorous person he is. Many of our early dates involved studying on campus while we both stressed out over classes. He was such a gentleman when he first asked to kiss me after one of our dates, and that's when I knew that he was a keeper.

Flash forward 5 years of dates, camping trips, and tons of fun, he proposed to me during a walk around the legislature grounds underneath the Christmas lights.

I had started casually looking at wedding dresses online, probably 8 months before Thomas proposed, so when it finally came time to start trying on dresses, I knew I had to try on the Frederique by Watters. After doing some research, I found out that Novelle was the only store in Alberta that could order the dress in. I made an appointment, and the minute I tried on the dress I knew it was THE dress.

I worked with Courtney throughout the process of buying the dress and alterations. She was always so friendly and upbeat, and was an excellent sounding board for questions we had.

Unfortunately my Mom was unable to be there in person for the alterations. Courtney would hold my phone for me so my Mom could see the different angles of my dress over FaceTime. She was truly wonderful to work with. Melody, one of the seamstresses who works closely with Novelle, was also phenomenal to work with. Her attention to detail was incredible. Both of these amazing women made my experience smooth and enjoyable.

Like most COVID weddings, we had no idea how to plan for the constantly changing restrictions. As cases started to rise shortly before our wedding we had to make the decision to postpone or not. In the end we decided to go ahead with only our wedding party and immediate family.

The mountains have always been our happy place so we couldn't have picked a better place to get married than Canmore. We are so thankful we decided not to postpone, as the small wedding turned out to be really intimate and special. Our day was so perfect. We had hired a livestream service for the ceremony so that we could still share our moment with all of our guests who weren't able to be there.

After the ceremony we exchanged private vows in a nearby meadow surrounded by mountains. We got a perfect combination of snow, sun and only mildly cold temperatures. It was a perfect start to the rest of our lives together."
